My first introduction to the NDE world was at the age of 14 or 15 years old. I had no particular career interests at that age, but one day Jarrus walked up to me and gave me a book and told me to read it. I opened the book and saw a bunch of symbols and lines and thought to myself; this looks too hard, I have no idea what it is. I can't remember if I lost the book or gave it back to him, but one thing I do remember is wanting no part of that book. Years passes and I got married at the age of 18 and still had no career, working a bunch of dead end jobs. One day while working in a clothing store, I ran into one of my former coworkers that I worked with at a hardware store and he told me that he was doing land surveying. It sounded like a career move so I pursued it and got the job as a helper on a survey crew and loved it. After being outdoors and sometimes in the wilderness I knew I didn't want to go back to a job working in a building. After working that job for a year, I heard that Jarrus was a supervisor at a company doing similar work. The work was doing soil testing and concrete inspection with a little bit of nondestructive testing using magnetic particle and liquid penetrant. That was my second time hearing about nondestructive testing. But once again, it went in one ear and out the other. The only interest I had was in the soil and concrete inspection. I met up with Jarrus, who was a manager at the time and he got me the job I wanted. Jarrus later left the compayty to pursue other things in his career. I didn't like how I was being treated at the company I was working for so I soon followed out the door in a different direction. A year or so later, for the third time, I heard of an NDE school where I would later attend and graduate from after seven months. I became qualified in the methods of VT, PT, MT, ET, UT, and RT. I was now read to start my career in NDE. I was 28 years old. it all came back to me at that point. Jarrus gave me a book at the age of 15 and told me to read it. That book would later become my career which I didn't want to pursue until 13 years later. Although it took me 13 years to listen, Jarrus Mitchell assisted me the whole way in finding my career.

"I found that the training was a direct reflection of what I would be doing in the field. Everything I learned in the classroom was immediately applicable...to all of the jobs I've had. I have cleared 90% of my debt and I am close to being able to build my own house. I wouldn't have gotten to where I am today without stumbling onto this opportunity."

"My overall NDE experience has been great. I appreciate [NDE Institute] for taking a chance with me and helping me with my financial situation. I never thought I would land a job before I even finished, but it's really a blessing to now have a job with Mistras. I want to thank [all NDE faculty and staff] for this opportunity to learn and become an inspector."
